In West Texas, the summer heat isn’t just a suggestion—it’s a force. As temperatures climb, your water well system faces its most grueling season. From irrigating parched landscapes to keeping up with increased household use, your pump and pressure tank will soon be working overtime.
Spring is the perfect “window of opportunity” to ensure your system is up to the task. Here is your Aqua Tech Solutions checklist for spring well maintenance.
1. Inspect the Wellhead
Walk out to your wellhead and look for cracks in the concrete pad or the well cap itself. A compromised cap is an open invitation for insects, rodents, and surface runoff to enter your water supply. Ensure the casing stands at least 12 inches above the ground to prevent pooling water from seeping in.
2. Check the Pressure Tank
Does your pump seem to “cycle” on and off rapidly? This is a sign of a waterlogged pressure tank. When a tank loses its air charge, the pump has to start and stop constantly, which can lead to a premature (and expensive) motor burnout. Checking the air pressure now can save your pump in July.
3. Clear the Perimeter
Over the winter, weeds and debris may have gathered around your well. Clear at least a 10-foot radius around the wellhead. This discourages pests from nesting near your water source and prevents lawn chemicals or fertilizers from accidentally leaching into the casing.
4. Water Quality Testing
Spring is the ideal time for your annual water quality test. With the spring rains, groundwater levels shift, potentially introducing new minerals or bacteria. Knowing what’s in your water now allows you to adjust your filtration or schedule a chlorination before the high-demand season starts.
5. Professional “Health Check”
Just like an A/C tune-up, a professional well inspection can identify worn bearings, frayed wiring, or a failing pressure switch before they cause a total system failure on a 100°F day.
